Latest Huawei Phone – Huawei Honor 5c VS Huawei Honor 4c VS Other Smartphones in the Same Price Range
Huawei recently announced the Huawei Honor 5c, the latest mid-range Huawei smartphone with really nice features. I really like their smartphones, even the latest releases. They continue to release new quality devices almost every month since the beginning of 2016.
I trust their brand because they can closely compete with other tech giants. They have the third largest global market share in the mobile industry following Samsung and Apple in the last quarter of 2015.
So, what are the new features Huawei Honor 5c compared to the Honor 4c that was released last year? And how is it compared to the best smartphones of its competitors within the same price? Let’s find out.
Device Type: Smartphone
Display: 5.2 inches (1080 x 1920 pixels)
Camera: 13MP
Hardware: HiSilicon Kirin 650, Quad-core 2.0 GHz + Quad-core 1.7 GHz, 2GB RAM
Battery: 3000 mAh
Expected Price: US$ 170
New Features Compared to Honor 4c
There are many significant improvements in the Huawei Honor 5c. Other brands normally just copy some of the features of the previous model, modify a little, and then a new smartphone is released. This one is different.
Larger Display with Full HD Resolution
The Huawei Honor 5c has a larger display size and higher display resolution. It has a 5.2-inch Full HD display while the Honor 4c has a 5.0-inch HD display.
The difference in sharpness is huge because the Honor 5c has a pixel density of 424 pixels per inch (ppi) while the Honor 4c has 294 ppi.
According to Apple, at a normal viewing distance, with a 326 ppi, the individual pixels are already invisible to the human eye. So at 424 ppi, even if you look closely at the display, the graphics will remain sharp and very detailed.
Despite having a larger display, the Honor 5c is slightly thinner at only 8.3 mm compared to the 8.8 mm profile of the Honor 4c. It is also lighter at only 156 g compared to the 162 g weight of the Honor 4c.
Latest Mid-Range Processor
When it comes to processing power, the Huawei Honor 5c has the latest mid-range chipset (HiSilicon Kirin 650) which has a faster CPU (Octa-core 1.7 GHz to 2.0 GHz) and graphics processor (Mali-T880MP2).
The Honor 4c has HiSilicon Kirin 620 with an Octa-core 1.2 GHz CPU which is already more than one year old since its release in Q1 2015.
More Storage Space
The internal storage doubled to 16 GB and it can now use a microSD card up to 128 GB. The Honor 4c can use a microSD card up to 32 GB only. This is very helpful if you have many large files that won’t fit in a 32 GB storage.
It’s also more convenient because you don’t have to frequently delete or transfer files from and to your computer.
Clearer Video Calls and Selfies
Another improvement that I like is the front camera’s resolution which increased to 8MP from the 5MP resolution of the Honor 4c. I frequently use video calls lately so a higher resolution will really help in showing clearer real-time videos.
If you like to take selfies, which according to Jimmy Kimmel, the way people capture significant events these days, you will also like the increase in camera resolution because this will produce more quality selfies.
Fingerprint Scanner and LTE-capability
It also now has a fingerprint scanner that will enhance the security of the device. This feature is getting more and more common even in mid-range smartphones so always consider this feature when choosing your smartphone.
It is also LTE-capable with a speed of Cat6 300/50 Mbps, unlike the Honor 4c which is only 3G-capable.
There are two versions and each has a different LTE band. For the NEM-UL10 version, the LTE bands are 1(2100), 3(1800), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500). The NEM-TL00H version has LTE bands of LTE band 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300).
You should know the LTE bands of your network in your location to ensure that you can use LTE connectivity.
Increased Battery Capacity and More Accurate Location Technology
The battery capacity increased to 3000 mAh from the 2550 mAh of the Honor 4c. Well, this is expected because of the larger display of the Honor 5c. Larger displays consume more power.
Aside from connecting to GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS satellites for location technology, it can also use Beidou navigation system which has 24 Chinese satellites. GPS with A-GPS utilizes 31 US satellites while GLONASS uses 24 Russian satellites. This is an excellent feature when used with Google Maps.
It now has a Silver color which replaces the White version of the Honor 4c. Both smartphones also have Black and Gold color variants.
Similar Features with Honor 4c
Since the Huawei Honor 5c has many significant improvements compared to the Honor 4c, there are only a few similarities that we can list.
The Huawei Honor 5c has a 13 MP rear camera resolution and f/2.0 aperture size. It can also record Full HD videos at 30 frames per second.
The display technology is still IPS LCD technology. This display technology is already an excellent one compared to TFT technology. You can also find this technology in the LG G5.
The RAM size remains at 2 GB. Other similar features are FM radio, Wi-Fi, hotspot, Acceleration sensor, Compass, and Proximity sensor.
Comparison with Other Smartphones in the Same Price Range
Compared to the best smartphones under US$200, the Full HD resolution of the Huawei Honor 5c with 424 ppi sharpness is the best you can find. Other top smartphones with similar display quality are HTC Desire Eye and Lenovo K3 Note.
When it comes to processing power, the best smartphones under US$200 have an Octa-core 1.5 GHz to 1.7 GHz with 2GB of RAM. So the Huawei Honor 5c is also one of the most powerful smartphones in that price range.
The highest camera resolution of the best smartphones under US$200 is also 13MP. However, within the same price range, you can even get a 13MP front camera resolution like in HTC Desire Eye. Full HD video recording is also a feature of the best smartphones under US$200.
The dimensions and weight of the Huawei Honor 5c are almost the same with the best smartphones under US$200.
When it comes to ruggedness, the HTC Desire Eye wins over the Huawei Honor 5c because the former is IP certified dustproof and waterproof up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. You will save from repair cost due to dust build-up and you can also take videos and pictures underwater.
Conclusion
The Huawei Honor 5c features several significant improvements compared to the Huawei Honor 4c that was released last year. It has a larger and sharper display, a faster hardware, better front camera, LTE capability, more storage space, better location technology, and a fingerprint scanner.
Compared to the best smartphones under US$200, the features of the Huawei Honor 5c are close to the top smartphones under this price category, so you will definitely get the best value for your money.
