Latest Mobile Phones from HTC – Desire 825, Desire 630, and Desire 530
HTC also introduced their new mid-range smartphones in the Mobile World Congress (2016) last February. These latest mobile phones from HTC are the Desire 825, Desire 630, and Desire 530. They are expected to be released in March or April 2016.
One unique and noticeable design of these smartphones is the micro splash finish which gives a stylish and funky look. And of course, they still have the plain color versions.
What can we expect from these latest smartphones? Let’s also try to assess their value by comparing them to smartphones with similar specs. ?
HTC Desire 825
Device Type: Smartphone
Display: 5.5 inches (720 x 1280 pixels)
Camera: 13MP (1080p)
Hardware: Snapdragon 400, Quad-core 1.6 GHz, 2GB RAM
Battery: 2700 mAh
Price: NT$7,990.00 (approx. US$ 245)
The Desire 825 comes with a phablet-size screen with HD resolution and 267 ppi pixel density. For a 5.5-inch display, the sharpness is what you can expect for a mid to low-range smartphone. It is not that sharp, but it is not too bad either, as long as the price aligns with the quality.
The display sharpness reminds me of Lenovo S856 which has the same display size, resolution, and pixel density.
The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass with unspecified version, so expect about twice the display sturdiness compared to other glass displays.
It weighs 155 g and only 7.4 mm thin. Compared to the 5.5-inch Apple iPhone 6s Plus which weighs 192 g and only 7.3mm thin, Desire 825 is 23% lighter and is certainly one of the thinnest smartphones around. It is made of sturdy plastic which may explain its lightness, unlike the latest iPhone which has a metallic build. The sides are also curved near the back for a more comfortable grip.
It runs on the latest Android 6.0 OS (Marshmallow), but the Snapdragon 400 is a 2012 chipset. Combined with a 2GB RAM, I would expect that this smartphone can give a decent Android experience and should not cost more than US$200 based on the processing power alone.
The internal storage is 16 GB which can be expanded up to 200 GB with a microSD card. The rear camera and the 5MP front camera can record Full HD videos. I think this is one of the best features of this smartphone. But camera resolutions alone, similar good smartphones with the same specs will not cost more than US$200.
Another good feature of the Desire 825 is the Hi-Res Audio with Dolby technology. This will certainly spice up the sound quality and may justify if the price is slightly higher than US$200. The battery is removable which is a good thing. The battery capacity is near the average battery capacity of 5.5-inch smartphones.
HTC Desire 630
Device Type: Smartphone
Display: 5.0 inches (720 x 1280 pixels)
Camera: 13MP (1080p)
Hardware: Snapdragon 400, Quad-core 1.6 GHz, 2GB RAM
Battery: 2200 mAh
Price: ???
The Desire 630 is the normal-size version of the Desire 825. At only 5.0 inches, it is more comfortable to hold and will easily fit into your pocket. At the same display resolution but with a smaller display, the sharpness went up to 294 ppi pixel density. The display quality alone is almost similar to the best smartphones under US$150 like LG Magna.
It only weighs 140g and only 8.3 mm thin. It is slightly thicker compared to Desire 825.
Since it is a smaller version of the Desire 825, most internal specs are the same. The Desire 630 has the same processing hardware, OS, camera resolution, internal memory, 200 GB microSD card slot, and Hi-Res Audio with Dolby technology. The battery capacity is also near the average battery capacity of 5.0-inch smartphones.
HTC Desire 530
Device Type: Smartphone
Display: 5.0 inches (720 x 1280 pixels)
Camera: 8MP
Hardware: Snapdragon 210, Quad-core 1.1 GHz, 1.5GB RAM
Battery: 2200 mAh
Price: NT$4,990 (approx. US$153)
The Desire 530 has the same weight and dimensions (146.9 x 70.9 x 8.3 mm) as the Desire 630. It has the same display size and quality as well. The main difference can be found in the processing power, RAM, and rear camera resolution.
The Desire 530 comes with Snapdragon 210, a 2014 chipset for low-end smartphones. At its level of processing power and RAM, it can compete with the top smartphones under than $100.
The rear camera resolution went down to 8MP, but the front camera remains at 5MP. But unlike the Desire 630, the front camera of Desire 530 cannot record Full HD videos. HTC also did not emphasize any Hi-Res audio and Dolby technology so we are also not expecting the same audio quality.
Like the Desire 630, the Desire 530 has a 16 GB internal memory that can be expanded up to 200 GB with a microSD card. It also has the same removable battery and battery capacity.
What do you think of these latest HTC smartphones? I would love to hear from you.
My favorite brand is HTC. I always like this phone due to its some extra feature.
Hey Jaman, I also like HTC phones especially when it comes to sound. Even Apple doesn’t have Hi-Res Audio yet. They are still using 16-bit CD quality audio, which makes HTC 825 and HTC 630 four times better in terms of sound quality. 😀
