Latest HTC Mobile Phone – HTC Desire 830 VS HTC Desire 825 VS The Best Smartphones within the Same Price Range
The HTC Desire 830 is the latest HTC mobile phone and it’s already available in HTC’s Taiwan website and soon in other online stores.
I recently made a post about the previous models of HTC that were released in April 2016 such as HTC Desire 825, Desire 630, and Desire 530. I found these smartphones a little pricey for its features.
But HTC Desire 830 is different. The value of this phone is worth the price. How is it compared to HTC Desire 825 and the best smartphones within the same price range? Let’s find out.
Device Type: Smartphone
Display: 5.5 inches (1080 x 1920 pixels)
Camera: 13MP
Hardware: Mediatek, Octa-core 1.5 GHz, 3GB RAM
Battery: 2800 mAh
Price: NT$9,990 (approx. US$306.25)
Display and Design
The HTC Desire 830 has a better display compared to Desire 825. It comes in Full HD resolution with a sharpness of 401 pixels per inch (ppi). The HTC Desire 825 has the same 5.5-inch display size but only comes in HD display with a sharpness of 267 ppi.
Both smartphones use Super LCD display technology.
The HTC Desire 830 does not have the micro-splash design that comes in some variants of the HTC Desire 825. These splashes or spots of colors give a modern funky look in the HTC Desire 825.
It is slightly thicker at 7.8 mm compared to the 7.4 mm profile of HTC Desire 825. For me, a 7.8 mm profile is already very thin compared to other smartphones. The weight is almost the same at 155 to 156 g.
Compared with the best smartphones below US$300, the Full HD resolution with 401 ppi sharpness is the best you can get. So when it comes to the display, this smartphone is one of the best.
Similar smartphones are Sony Xperia C4 and Asus Zenfone Selfie.
Processing Power
The HTC Desire 830 also runs on the latest Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) OS. It packs a Mediatek chipset with a faster CPU speed and better graphics processor compared to the HTC Desire 825.
It has a 32 GB internal storage which is twice the size of the internal storage of HTC Desire 825. Both can use a microSD card up to 2TB when this size becomes available. Currently, the largest available microSD card storage size is 200 GB.
The RAM is also larger at 3GB as compared to the 2GB RAM of the Desire 825.
Compared to the best smartphones under US$300, the best CPU speed can range from Octa-core 1.7 GHz to 1.8 GHZ. And this smartphone is almost close to that clock speed.
When it comes to RAM, the 3GB size is also the best you can get.
Smartphones with slightly higher CPU speed and 3GB RAM are Asus Zenfone Selfie, Huawei Honor 6, and Sony Xperia Z3v.
Camera
The HTC Desire 830 has a slightly better camera compared to the HTC Desire 825. Both have a 13MP resolution but the HTC Desire 830 has a larger aperture size of f/2.0.
The aperture size is the feature responsible for providing a dimensional effect on an image. It puts the subject of the image in focus while blurring the background. The larger the aperture size, the more dimensional effect. This is one of the effects that professional photographers make.
The HTC Desire 830’s camera also has an OIS feature which helps to reduce blur when the subject is in motion or your hands are shaking while capturing an image.
The HTC Desire 830’s front camera has a 4MP resolution which is lower than the 5MP resolution of the HTC Desire 825. But still, the former’s camera is better because it has a larger aperture size of f/2.0.
Both smartphones have rear and front cameras that can record Full HD videos.
Compared to the best smartphones, the 13MP the normal resolution you can get within the same price range. But certain smartphones like Sony Xperia Z3v and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact have better cameras that have a 20.7MP resolution with the same f/2.0 aperture size.
Well, I would also like to compare the sensor size and pixel size but HTC did not disclose this information for the HTC Desire 830.
Battery Life
The HTC Desire 830 can last up to 14.5 hours of call time and up to 545 hours of standby time.
HTC did not disclose the battery life in hours of HTC Desire 825, but we can safely assume that the battery life of HTC Desire 830 is slightly longer. This is because it has a slightly larger battery capacity of 2800 mAh as compared to the 2700 mAh of HTC Desire 825.
However, the HTC Desire 830’s battery is non-removable. HTC Desire 825 has a removable battery which can be replaced anytime or when it already performs below standard after years of use.
Compared to the other best smartphones under US$300, the 14.5 hours of call time is pretty much the average battery life.
Other Features
The HTC Desire 830 has Dolby stereo speakers like the HTC Desire 825 which is one of the best features of upper mid-range smartphones of HTC. The sound is similar to Dolby surround sound in theaters. Even the flagship smartphones of other brands do not have this kind of feature.
You can enjoy more while listening in loudspeaker for your music and movies.
Both HTC Desire 830 and HTC Desire 825 are LTE-capable, with Bluetooth connectivity, can use GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS for location technology, has NFC support, and can use sensors such as Acceleration, Proximity, and Compass.
If you like a waterproof and dustproof smartphone, within the same price range, you can also get the Sony Xperia Z3v and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. Both smartphones are IP68 certified dustproof and waterproof up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
Conclusion
The HTC Desire 830 is an excellent smartphone where the value is worth your money. I personally prefer it over the HTC Desire 825 which is a little pricey for its features.
Compared to HTC Desire 825, it has a better display, slightly better camera, faster processor, bigger RAM, and slightly larger battery capacity.
Compared to the best smartphones under US$300, the HTC Desire 830 can definitely compete in terms of display, processing power, and battery life. The camera may not be the best around and it is also not waterproof and dustproof, but it has Dolby stereo speakers which give a good advantage over other smartphones.
