Samsung’s new smartphones this June 2016 are jaw-dropping. The latest Samsung mobile phones are the Galaxy C7 and Galaxy C5 and they have seriously good specs.
These are upper mid-range smartphones that look like the latest iPhones. Not that we have mentioned it, let’s compare them with the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

Design and Display – Metal Body with SUPER Thin Profile
At first glance, you will think these are iPhone models because there are obvious similarities in their design. There are lines at the back that seem familiar and even the rounded corners are almost similar to the latest iPhones.
I really like the feel of the latest iPhone on my hands, so the beveled edges of the Galaxy C7 and C5 will definitely give the same feeling.
Moreover, like the latest iPhone, the Galaxy C7 and C5 have a metal body for a sturdy build. However, they did not mention if the glass display is made of the durable Corning Gorilla glass which can be found in their flagship smartphones.
The Galaxy C7 is the larger model with a 5.7-inch Full HD display with 386 pixels per inch. It is slightly larger compared to the iPhone 6s Plus by 0.2 inches. It is also slightly less sharp compared to the iPhone 6s Plus which has a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch.
The Galaxy C5 is the smaller model with a 5.2-inch Full HD display. It is larger than the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s and closer to the 5.1-inch Galaxy S7. With a pixel density of 424 pixels per inch, it is slightly sharper than the iPhone 6s Plus.
Both Galaxy C7 and C5 have Super AMOLED display technologies. You will never regret getting a Super AMOLED display because it’s a lot better than iPhone displays and any other smartphone displays.
I really like this display technology.
It provides realistic and vivid colors so sometimes it is more fun for me to watch a movie on a smartphone with Super AMOLED display than a television.
Another aspect that you will really like with the Galaxy C7 and C5 is that they are both SUPER thin! At only 6.7 mm in thickness, they are even thinner than the 7.1 mm iPhone 6s. Imagine holding a super thin smartphone with rounded edges? It’s too amazing.
Despite having a slightly larger display than the iPhone 6s Plus, the Galaxy C7 is 16% lighter at only 165 g. The Galaxy C5, on the other hand, has the same weight with the iPhone 6s.
It comes in Silver, Gray, Gold, and Rose Gold color variants
Processing Power – You Won’t be Disappointed
The Galaxy C7 comes with a Snapdragon 625 chipset with an Octa-core 2.0 GHz CPU. The Galaxy C5 features a Snapdragon 617 chipset with a slightly slower CPU.
These chipsets are for upper mid-range smartphones and will definitely give you a very good Android experience from use of various apps to playing games.
With these chipsets, they can closely compete with the best mobile phones under US$400. But the 4 GB RAM puts them over the other upper mid-range smartphones.
A 4GB RAM can only normally be found in flagship smartphones.
Higher RAM will allow you to run more applications simultaneously while maintaining the smooth processing.
Compared to the processors of the latest iPhones, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are still better because based on several CPU benchmark tests, the processors of the latest iPhones are closely competing with the flagship smartphones of Samsung which are way faster than the Galaxy C7 and C5.
The Galaxy C7 and C5 are cheaper anyway compared to the iPhones so the difference in processing power will be justified by the price.
The real advantage is in the storage capacity. Both have 32 GB and 64 GB variants which can be expanded up to 128 GB.
Aside from the huge storage capacity for your movies, you can just easily copy and paste files from and to your computer. With the iPhones, storage space and file transfer are headaches.
Both also run on the latest Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). Many iPhone users are wondering what’s the difference between iOS and Android and they fear that it may be difficult to use an Android OS or there may be some apps that will not be available.
Based on my experience, the Android OS is pretty much the same with iOS in terms of user friendliness. How you browse from the menu to apps is very similar. There are apps in iOS that have their Android version from how to find your lost phone to the use of assistive touch.
The latest Android version is even capable of Android Pay which has the same concept with Apple Pay. So, if you still think that the Android OS is far from the iOS in terms of functionality, security, and features, it is not.
Camera – Higher Resolution
Both mobile phones have a 16 MP camera with f/1.9 aperture size that can also record Full HD videos. The resolution is higher compared to the latest iPhones by 4 MP.
The aperture size is also larger which means you can capture images with more dimensional effect. This is obtained by putting the focus on the subject while blurring the background. It’s an effect most professional photographers use to make quality photos.
There is no mention of the OIS feature so it is safe to assume that they don’t have it. The iPhones have iOS and this feature is responsible for reducing blurs when your hands are shaking or if the subject you are trying to capture is in motion.
I wish to compare the pixel size and sensor size but no such disclosure was made by Samsung. These features are critical in capturing quality photos in a low-light environment.
The 8 MP front camera also beats the iPhone camera resolution by 3 MP. It also has the same aperture size which is larger compared to the front camera of the iPhone.
Battery Life and Other Cool Features
The battery capacity of the Galaxy C7 is slightly lower compared to the Galaxy S7 Edge but larger compared to the 5.7-inch Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ by 300 mAh.
So expect about up to 22 hours of talk time in 3G with the Galaxy C7 which is longer by 2 hours compared to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+.
It could even be more than that since the Galaxy S6 Edge+ has more pixels per inch that need to be illuminated.
For the Galaxy C5, expect about up to 18 hours of talk time in 3G which is almost the same with the Galaxy S6 Edge in terms of battery capacity and display size.
The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus can last up to 14 hours and 24 hours of 3G talk time, respectively.
Another cool feature that I like is the fingerprint sensor which greatly enhances these devices’ physical and online security. Since you can use Android Pay, this feature will make transactions a lot safer.
You can also use the fingerprint sensor as a replacement of the home button click which can slow down the wear and tear of your home button.
Other awesome features are LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi, acceleration sensor, proximity sensor, compass, GPS, GLONASS, NFC support, and Bluetooth for you wireless speakers and headsets.
Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy C7 and C5 are the latest Samsung mobile phones with significant similarities in design with the latest iPhone models. At first glance, they may look like an iPhone.
Compared to iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, these smartphones have superior display qualities. In terms of processing power, they are below the iPhone’s speed, but of course, they are expected to come with a less expensive price tag.
The camera has its advantages and disadvantages like higher resolutions, but there was no mention of an OIS feature. The battery capacity is not as good as the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge but can last close to the iPhone’s battery life.
