Cheap Mobile Phone – HTC Desire 628 Is Worth The Price
HTC recently released the HTC Desire 628, a new cheap mobile phone with the best features you can find for a US$200 budget. I personally find some of their releases slightly pricey, but not HTC Desire 628. It is certainly worth the price.
What are the features of this mobile phone and how is it compared to other smartphones within the same price range? Let’s find out.
Device Type: Smartphone
Display: 5.0 inches (720 x 1280 pixels)
Camera: 13MP
Hardware: MediaTek MT6753, Octa-core 1.3 GHz, 3 GB RAM
Battery: 2200 mAh
Price: US$ 207
Design
The HTC Desire 628 comes with a dual color design. The color accent adds style on the side frame and beautifully encircles the rear camera.
If I were to choose a smartphone with a plastic build, I would like it either to have a single color that has a textured design or a dual color like the HTC Desire 628 that is cool and stylish.
You can choose from black with red accent or white with blue accent.
The display is protected by a full glass that connects to the side frame without any gaps. The sides are also beveled to the back to provide you a comfortable grip.
It is only 8.1 mm thick, which is not the thinnest around, but it’s still a very thin profile. The weight of 142 g is just right for its size if you compare it with the other 5-inch smartphones today.
Display
If you are checking for display quality, the sharpness and color saturation are two of the important aspects you should look at.
The 5-inch display of the HTC Desire 628 has an HD resolution at 294 pixels per inch. This level of sharpness is what you can normally find in the top 5-inch smartphones if you have a US$200 budget.
It uses IPS LCD technology which is one of the most excellent display technology today. It has one of the best viewing angles and saves more battery life compared to other display technologies.
The vividness and color saturation of this technology is also good and it’s also being used by iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.
Other good smartphones within the same price range with the same level of sharpness, display size, and display technology are Lenovo P70, Huawei P8 Lite, Huawei Honor 4C, Asus Zenfone 2 Laser, and Lenovo S60.
Performance
The HTC Desire 628 comes with a MediaTek chipset with an Octa-core 1.3 GHz CPU. Combined with a 3 GB RAM, it can provide you the best experience from a mid-range Android smartphone. It is powerful enough for a fast and smooth running of apps and games.
It can also closely compete or even exceed the performance of some of the top smartphones under US$200. Most of them are also using the same chipset with almost the same CPU speed, but only with 2 GB RAM.
So in terms of processing power, the price is worth it for the HTC Desire 628.
When it comes to storage, the HTC Desire 628 has a 32 GB internal capacity that can be expanded up to 256 GB using a microSD card. That’s a lot of storage space if you have a lot of movie files.
The OS is still Android 5.1 (Lollipop), which is the version that was released before the latest Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow), but for me, it’s still a very useful recent Android OS version.
Camera
The HTC Desire 628 has a 13 MP rear camera which is the camera resolution that you can find in the top smartphones within the same price range. It can also record Full HD videos at 30 frames per second.
The rear camera also has a f/2.0 aperture size which is the usual aperture size for this range. It can also use Autofocus and has features such as Face detection, Face beauty, Photo geotagging, 180-degree panorama mode, and HDR mode.
It has LED flash and you can also take pictures while recording videos.
The front camera, on the other hand, has a 5 MP resolution for your best selfies and it can also record Full HD videos. These are the usual front camera features of the top smartphones within the same price range, except for HTC Desire Eye which has exceptional selfie camera features.
So when it comes to camera features, the price of the Desire 628 is also worth it.
Battery Life and Other Cool Features
The battery capacity of 2200 mAh is slightly smaller compared to the other 5-inch smartphones within the same price range. This may be due to the attempt to make this smartphone thinner than other smartphones.
The good thing is that there are built-in software features in HTC Desire 628 that enhances the battery life such as power saving mode and extreme power saving mode. The battery is non-removable.
It is also LTE-capable with a speed of Cat4 150 Mbps (download)/50 Mbps (upload).
Another feature that I really like with HTC smartphones is the HTC BoomSound which put the sound quality of your HTC headset to another level. It enhances the sound by providing a deeper bass and a finer audio detail.
You can also use other basic features such as Wi-Fi, hotspot, GPS with A-GPS for finding locations, Bluetooth to connect to you wireless speakers and other accessories, and FM radio.
It also has sensors such as an Ambient light sensor, Proximity sensor, and Motion G-sensor.
HTC Desire 628 Is Worth Every Buck
The HTC Desire 628 is an amazing mid-range smartphone that can compete or even exceed the performance of the top smartphones within the same price range.
If you look at the features of this smartphone, almost all are the best you can get for a US$200 budget. It has a sharp and vivid display, a powerful processor, huge RAM, and high-resolution camera.
It also has a cool dual color design that you will also like, and more importantly, it can give you a comfortable grip.
The battery capacity is not the best feature of this smartphone, but there are built-in power saving features that you can use. You will also like the good sound quality which is better than most smartphones within the same price range.
