Design and Display – Huawei Y5II and Huawei Y3II

Despite having a larger display size, the Huawei Y5II is thinner and lighter compared to the Huawei Y3II. It is only 8.9 mm thin at 135 g. The Huawei Y3II is at 9.9 mm at 150 g.

The Huawei Y5II comes with an HD (720p) display resolution with 294 ppi pixel density. The Huawei Y3II features a 480p resolution with a 218 ppi pixel density.

When it comes to display sharpness, the 294 ppi pixel density is what you can normally get for smartphones below US$150.

LG Magna, for example, is one of the best smartphones under $150 and it has the same display size, display resolution, and pixel density with the Huawei Y5II.

The display sharpness of the Huawei Y3II is close to the smartphones below US$ 100, but it is not one of the best. The best smartphones below US$ 100 normally have a 540 x 960 resolution with a pixel density above 230 ppi.

Also, the Huawei Y5II uses IPS LCD display technology while Huawei Y3II’s display technology is not disclosed. IPS LCD is an excellent display technology that allows more viewing angles. It is even being used in LG G5, the latest flagship smartphone of LG.

What I also like about these smartphones is that there are several color choices. You can choose from five (5) colors such as Sky Blue, Obsidian Black, Arctic White, Sand Gold, and Rose Pink.

The Sand Gold and Sky Blue looks awesome.

Camera – Huawei Y5II and Huawei Y3II

The Huawei Y5II comes with an 8MP rear camera while the Huawei Y3II comes with a 5MP camera. An 8MP camera resolution is the currently highest you can get for a US$150 budget.

But for a US$ 100 budget, a 5MP resolution is what you would normally get, but you can even still have an 8MP camera from an LG L90 or Lenovo A606.

Both smartphones have a 2MP front camera, but the Huawei Y5II’s front camera has a LED flash. The 2MP resolution is not the best resolution that you can have from a US$150 budget. There is the LG Magna or LG G Stylo with a 5MP front camera.

Processor and Performance – Huawei Y5II and Huawei Y3II

Both smartphones will run on Android 5.1 (Lollipop) OS with a Mediatek chipset and 1GB RAM. Depending on the model, both smartphones have 3G and LTE versions.

Compared with other smartphones within the same price range, the Huawei Y5II is close to the top smartphones under US$ 150 in terms of processing power and RAM. They normally range from Quad-core 1.2 GHz to 1.3 GHz with 1GB RAM.

With this level of processing power, you can already have a good Android experience.

Again, the Quad-core 1.0 GHz and 1GB RAM of Huawei Y3II fall short compared to the top smartphones under US$ 100. They normally would also have a Quad-core 1.2 GHz to 1.3 GHz with 1GB RAM.

The Huawei Y5II and Y3II have an 8GB internal memory. The internal memory can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card, which is also a feature of the other top smartphones within the same price range.

Battery – Huawei Y5II and Huawei Y3II

battery iconThe battery capacity of the Huawei Y5II is 2200 mAh while the Huawei Y3II has a 2100 mAh. There is no disclosure of the battery life in hours.

But we can safely assume that the Huawei Y5II’s battery life in hours is close to Huawei SnapTo which is up to 11 hours of talk time (3G). Although they have different chipset manufacturers, they both have the same CPU speed, display size, and battery capacity.

The display size, resolution, and battery capacity of the Huawei Y3II is close to HTC Desire 320 so we can also safely assume that it closely last up to 12 hours of talk time (3G).

Other Features – Huawei Y5II and Huawei Y3II

Both smartphones have Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth (4.0), GPS with A-GPS, and FM radio. These are common and basic features for affordable smartphones.

They are also LTE capable (LTE version) with LTE bands of 1(2100), 3(1800), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800). Take note of the LTE bands in your location and network provider to ensure that you can use these smartphones to connect to an LTE network.

Depending on the version (3G or LTE), these smartphones may contain all or some of the following sensors: gravity sensor, light sensor, proximity sensor, and electronic compass.

Conclusion

The Huawei Y5II and Y3II are the latest affordable smartphones from Huawei. Compared to the top smartphones below US$150, the Huawei Y5II has the highest camera resolution, processing power, RAM, and display quality. It is certainly the best value you can get for your money.

The Huawei Y3II, on the other hand, has some features that fall below the top smartphones under US$100. If price becomes much lower than the best phones under US$ 100, this smartphone is a good choice for the budget conscious.

What do you think of these new smartphones from Huawei? I would love to hear from you.
