Latest Motorola Mobile Phones – Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus, and Moto G4 Play
It has been a few months since we last heard of a new release from Motorola, but now they are back with three new mobile phones. The Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus, and Moto G4 Play are the three latest mobile phones from Motorola.
It was only last October 2014 since Lenovo finalized the purchase of Motorola Mobility. In January 2016, it was announced that the company will be using the “Moto” brand in its most recent devices.
So, what are the key features of these three new “Moto” mobile phones from Motorola? How are they different from each other? Let’s find out.
Moto G4
Device Type: Smartphone
Display: 5.5 inches (1080 x 1920 pixels)
Camera: 13MP
Chipset: Snapdragon 617, Quad-core 1.5 GHz + Quad-core 1.2 GHz
RAM: 2GB RAM
Battery: 3000 mAh
Expected Price: US$ 170 (16 GB)
Key Features
The Motorola Moto G4 has a 5.5-inch Full HD display with 401 pixels per inch. It has the same display size, resolution, and pixels per inch with the iPhone 6s Plus.
It uses IPS LCD display technology which can also be found in LG G5, the latest flagship model of LG. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which is twice more durable compared to other glass designs.
With this kind of display quality, it can compete with the best smartphones of other brands under US$ 200.
It is also very light for its size at only 155 g. It is 9.8 mm thick which is a little thicker compared to other 5.5-inch smartphones.
It runs on the latest Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) OS with a CPU speed that can give you a very good Android experience.
The Snapdragon 617 chipset was announced in September 2015 and is being used by similar devices like HTC One A9 and LG G Vista 2.
The level of processing power reminds me of Lenovo K3 Note and Huawei P8 Lite which are two of the best phones within the same price range.
It comes with a 2 GB RAM and two internal storage variants: 16 GB and 32 GB. Both can be expanded up to 128 GB using a microSD card. I personally will go for a 16 GB variant if it can be expanded anyway with a microSD card of the same size.
The rear camera resolution is 13 MP with f/2.0 aperture size and can record Full HD videos. The front camera has a 5MP resolution.
Other cool features that you will like include LTE connectivity with a speed of LTE Cat4 150/50 Mbps, Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS with A-GPS, and FM radio. It comes in black or white color variants.
Moto G4 Plus
Device Type: Smartphone
Display: 5.5 inches (1080 x 1920 pixels)
Camera: 16MP
Chipset: Snapdragon 617, Quad-core 1.5 GHz + Quad-core 1.2 GHz
RAM: 2 GB RAM (16 GB) | 3 GB RAM (32 GB) | 4 GB RAM (64 GB)
Battery: 3000 mAh
Expected Price: US$ 200 (16 GB)
Key Features
The Motorola Moto G4 Plus has several similar features with the Moto G4 above. It has the same display size, display sharpness, dimensions, weight, OS, CPU, GPU, microSD capacity, battery capacity, video recorder, GPS, FM radio, and front camera resolution.
The main difference is in the rear camera resolution which is at 16 MP. Another difference is in the RAM. The 32 GB version has a 3 GB RAM. And then there is a 64 GB version with a 4 GB RAM.
Moto G4 Play
Device Type: Smartphone
Display: 5.0 inches (720 x 1280 pixels)
Camera: 8MP
Chipset: Snapdragon 410, Quad-core 1.2 GHz,
RAM: 1GB RAM (8 GB) | 2GB RAM (16 GB)
Battery: 2800 mAh
Expected Price: (below US$150)
Key Features
The Motorola Moto G4 Play is expected to be the cheapest model because of its lower specs compared to the two smartphones above. If you are budget conscious, this is perfect.
It has almost the same thickness as the previous two which is at 9.9 mm. It terms of weight, it is lighter at only 137 g. I would expect that because it has a smaller display size.
It comes in 5-inch HD resolution with 294 pixels per inch. It uses the same IPS LCD display technology. This level of display quality is what you can usually find from the best smartphones under US$ 150 like LG Magna, Motorola Moto G (2nd gen), and Huawei SnapTo.
It also runs on the latest Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) OS with a Snapdragon 410 chipset. This is the same chipset that can be found in LG G Stylo, one of the best smartphones within the same price range.
The RAM depends on the internal storage variant as described above. The internal storage can still be expanded up to 128 GB using a microSD card which is actually good if you have huge files.
The rear camera has an 8 MP resolution with f/2.2 aperture size and can record Full HD videos. The front camera has a 5 MP resolution. The 8MP resolution is the best camera resolution you can have for a US$150 budget.
Other cool features include LTE capability, Wi-Fi, GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS, and FM radio. The battery is still non-removable.
Like the previous two smartphones, it comes in black or white color variants.
Conclusion
The Motorola Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus, and Moto G4 Play are the latest low to mid-range mobile phones from Motorola. The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus’ display quality, processing power, and camera features are the best specs that you can get with a US$200 budget.
The main differences between Moto G4 and G4 Plus are in the rear camera resolution and RAM size that is relative to the internal storage variant.
The Moto G4 Play, on the other hand, has lower specs compared to the previous two, but if the price is below US$150, it can closely compete with the best mobile phones within that price range.
