By

Apple also introduced the iPad Pro 9.7 last March 21, 2016, the newest iPad along with the iPhone SE. The iPad Pro 9.7 will be available in stores on March 31, 2016. It is a smaller version of the huge 12.9-ich iPad Pro that was released last November 2015.

Unlike the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, it comes in Rose Gold aside from the traditional Space Gray, Silver, and Gold colors. It comes in 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB like the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + Cellular models. Price starts at US$599.

Apple always has something new to offer, so what is new with the iPad Pro 9.7? Let’s take a look.

iPad Pro 9.7

Display: More Advanced Than Any Other iPad

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro has two new technologies that other iPads don’t have. These are the True Tone display and Wide color display.

The True Tone display makes reading on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro a lot more comfortable and natural. How? With its advanced four-channel ambient light sensors, the display’s color and intensity automatically change depending on the lighting of your environment.

This display adaptation is very useful if you like to take your iPad anywhere you go. Whether you’re inside your house, your office, at the coffee shop or outdoors, the lighting may vary depending on your location and the time of day. With True Tone display, the screen will feel better on your eyes and you will love to read more on your iPad.

The Wide color display, on the other hand, provides 25% more color saturation than previous iPad models. It makes the colors of the display more vivid and realistic. This is the display improvement that I have been waiting for from Apple. Before, when I compare the screen of the previous iPads side by side with Samsung’s Super AMOLED display, the iPad’s display looks pale, boring, and inferior.

With the Wide color display in the 9.7-ich iPad Pro, it would certainly give a significant improvement in the colorfulness of the display.

Other Awesome Display Features

iPad Pro 9.7

Like the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro can use the new Apple Pencil, which can be purchased separately.

The Apple Pencil is very useful if you like to write or sketch. It can detect pressure and movements with high precision as if you are writing and sketching using a real pencil on a paper.

This feature made the 12.9-inch iPad Pro one of the tools used for creative designs by Pixar and Walt Disney studios and other design companies. So expect the same experience with the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

According to Apple, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is 25% brighter than iPad Air 2.

Like the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and iPad Air 2, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro uses LED-backlit IPS LCD display technology with a 264 ppi pixel density which means that the sharpness and crispiness are the same.

It also has an anti-reflective coating which makes it 40% less reflective than iPad Air 2. If you are using your iPad outdoors, you will definitely like the improvement on the anti-reflective feature.

Design and Performance (CPU, GPU, Connectivity, Battery, and Audio)

The 9.7-inch display size, dimensions, and weight are exactly the same with the iPad Air 2. So the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and iPad Air 2 are currently the lightest and thinnest iPad. It is also as thin as the iPad mini 4.

The weight is one of my concerns when they released the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, and I know many people too, so I’m glad they are back with super lighter version.

Compared to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is slightly thinner and 63% lighter at only 437 (Wi-Fi) and 444 g (LTE). The Fingerprint sensor is still beautifully crafted with the display. It also has a scratch-resistant glass and fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating to prevent the annoying fingerprints.

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro runs on the latest iOS (9.3) and powered by Apple’s A9X chip. The A9X chip is the latest and most powerful chipset of Apple for their larger products. Since Apple developed their own Operating System and designed their own hardware, you are assured that both will run flawlessly together for optimum performance.

The graphics processor (PowerVR Series 7 – 12-core graphics) is the same GPU in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. According to Apple, this GPU can compete with laptops and consoles in terms of performance. So if you are a gamer, you will definitely enjoy playing heavy 3D games in this cool tablet.

iPad Pro

Compared to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the WiFi + Cellular version of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro supports LTE Advanced for faster cellular data. LTE Advanced is a major enhancement of the standard LTE. It also has more LTE frequency bands and this is very useful in ensuring LTE connectivity if you are traveling to other regions.

It also has NFC support, Wi-Fi 802.11, and Bluetooth v4.2. The Wi-Fi + Cellular version has GPS with A-GPS for location technology. To understand more about these features, you may visit the FAQS page of this website.

You can use Bluetooth to connect to Smart Keyboard which is a thin custom-designed keyboard by Apple for the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

Capture6

The battery life is the same with the 12.7-inch iPad Pro. Both can last up to 10 hours of multimedia and Wi-Fi use. It is still within the average battery life of a tablet.

Like the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro has four speakers that are capable of more than twice the audio of other iPads. Personally, I like this new feature. The previous iPads have less powerful speakers and it’s more enjoyable to watch movies and YouTube videos if the speakers are louder.

Camera: Huge Improvement from the 12.9-inch Version

iPad Pro 9.7

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro has a 12MP camera while the 12.9-inch iPad Pro has an 8MP camera.

Unlike the 12.9-inch iPad Pro which can capture Full HD videos, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro can capture 4K videos.

The front camera of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is at 5MP which is significantly better than the 1.2MP front camera of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

It also features Retina Flash, where the screen lights more when taking selfies for a better image quality in a low-light condition.

The 12.9-inch iPad Pro camera already has advanced capabilities and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro adapted it. On top of this, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro has additional features such as improved noise reduction, improved local tone mapping, sapphire crystal lens cover, Auto HDR for photos, True Tone flash, Autofocus with Focus Pixels, and Live Photos.

Conclusion

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro is Apple’s lighter and thinner version of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It does not only differ in size, it also has significant camera improvements, more advanced connectivity, and more colorful display.

If you find the 12.9-inch iPad Pro too big or a bit heavy, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro inherited the iPad Air 2’s super thin and lightweight profile, but with a lot more powerful specs.

What do you think of this latest iPad? I would love to hear from you.
