New Samsung Tablet 2016 – Samsung Galaxy J Max is Huge and Beautiful
Samsung just recently released the Samsung Galaxy J Max, a 7-inch phablet for those whole love huge displays, but still have that smartphone functionality.
It is the new Samsung tablet in 2016 after they released the Galaxy Tab A 7.0 (2016) back in March this year. What are the cool features of the Samsung Galaxy J Max? Let’s find out.
UPDATE (July 31, 2016): Samsung recently released the Galaxy Tab J 7.0 LTE in Taiwan which has the same design and detailed specs with the Samsung Galaxy J Max, except that the former comes in white and gold color variants. So I hope you don’t get confused with all these device names. 😉
Device Type: Phablet
Display: 7.0 inches (800 x 1280 pixels)
Hardware: Spreadtrum SC8830, Quad-core 1.5 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM
Battery: 4000 mAh
Price: US$ 199
Design – Beautiful
It’s huge and it can be a good choice if you like a device with a size that’s between a normal tablet and a smartphone. It’s actually very stylish with those rounded corners and side frames. At only 8.7 mm thin, it’s within the average thickness of mobile devices today.
I like the overall design. At first look, it reminds me of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2016) design because of some similarities in the form. And I also like the texture of the rear which adds more beauty.
It comes in two colors: Black and Gold.
Display – Huge for Your Entertainment Needs
The Samsung Galaxy J Max is perfect for those who love huge displays. It has a 7-inch TFT display with 216 pixels per inch (ppi).
For a US$200 phablet, the level of sharpness is not that bad. The display is not the sharpest but it’s good enough for your modest needs.
When it comes to display technology, the TFT display is also good, but it would have been better if they have used IPS LCD which has better color saturation and viewing angles.
TFT is cheaper but it’s getting old and most mobile devices today uses IPS LCD or Super AMOLED which are better in terms of display quality.
But again, this is how Samsung can provide you a larger display at a cheaper price.
Processing Power, OS, Storage, and Camera
The Samsung Galaxy J Max comes with a Spreadtrum chipset with a Quad-core 1.5 GHz CPU and 1.5 GB RAM. This is the usual speed of entry-level smartphones. It is not the fastest around and it is good if you are not a heavy user.
It can decently run games and apps, play movies, and do the usual stuff. When using this phablet, make sure other background apps are closed in order to get the most speed.
It runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop) which is not the latest Android OS. Most Android fans will be disappointed, but most people are already satisfied with Lollipop. It’s still an excellent Android OS.
When it comes storage capacity, it has an 8 GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 256 GB with the use of a microSD card (with dedicated slot). This is perfect because most people will use this phablet primarily for watching movies and you can save a lot of movies in the microSD card of that size.
The camera has an 8 MP resolution with a huge aperture size of f/1.9. It’s actually a decent resolution for a phablet. It can also record HD videos at 30 frames per second. The front camera has a 2 MP resolution.
Battery Life, Free Bluetooth Headset, and Other Features
The battery life is one of the most important features of a phablet because you will frequently use it for entertainment.
The Samsung Galaxy J Max has a battery capacity is 4000 mAh. According to Samsung, you can use this phablet up to 9 hours without interruption. It’s actually a huge battery capacity and it’s removable!
It is LTE capable with LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 40(2300), 44(700). It’s also dual-SIM and you can always use two SIM slots because the microSD card has a dedicated slot.
The LTE speed is Cat4 150(download)/50(upload) Mbps.
Other cool features that you will like are GPS, with A-GPS, GLONASS, FM radio, and USB On-The-Go. The package comes with a Bluetooth headset for your wireless connectivity.
Entertainment, Streaming, and More!
The Samsung Galaxy J Max is a good phablet and its primary use is for entertainment such as watching movies, video streaming, browsing the internet, reading and more.
The best features of this phablet are the huge display, 256 GB expandable storage, huge battery capacity, LTE capability, and beautiful design.
It comes with an entry-level processing power, but with the huge display and some other huge specs, the price is really worth it. It will definitely meet your modest needs and it’s affordable!
