The year 2016 has ended so now we present to you the Top Slim Mobile Phone of 2016. But first, let’s find out the advantages and disadvantages of a slimmer phone.

Manufacturers are not aiming for the thinnest smartphone in the world

Back in 2015, the slimmest smartphone is 4.9 mm (Oppo R5). In 2016, the slimmest is 5.2 mm (Motorola Moto Z) which won’t even make it in the Top 5 Slimmest Phones of 2015.

Manufacturers today may push for thinner and lighter, but they are also considering other factors that make an excellent smartphone such as performance, battery life, camera quality, and more.

Although 2016 did not beat 2015 in terms of thickness, we were offered better quality smartphones with the slimmest design possible.

Consider the power-saving features

Designing a slimmer phone means the manufacturers may reduce the battery capacity. So the thinner the device, the less space for the battery. You may also consider the software’s battery saving features of the phone that you will be getting.

Are slimmer phones comfortable to hold?

It depends on the overall design. Phones with curved edges, which is the current design trend, can provide more comfort compared to those with flat edges.

2016 Top 5 Slimmest Smartphones

The smartphones below are the slimmest around that were released in 2016. Let’s take a look at their other excellent features.

#1 – Motorola Moto Z – 5.2mm

Motorola Moto ZDisplay: 5.5 inches (1440 x 2560 pixels)
Camera: 13MP (2160p)
Hardware: Snapdragon 820, Quad-core 2×2.15 GHz + 2×1.6 GHz, 4 GB RAM
Battery: 2600 mAh
Price: US$ 500

Cheapest Place to buy: Amazon.com

The Motorola Moto Z is a high-end smartphone. It has a very sharp Quad-HD display at 535 pixels per inch. I like that it uses AMOLED display technology for more vivid colors compared to IPS LCD technology.

If you also like a very powerful smartphone, this is an excellent choice. The processing power and RAM size is similar to other flagship smartphones of other brands such as LG, Samsung, and Huawei. It runs on Android 6 but it’s upgrade-able to Android 7 (Nougat).

The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which makes it twice more durable than other glass designs. It comes in 32 or 64 GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 256 GB using a microSD card with a dedicated slot.

It can record videos at 4K resolution, has a fingerprint scanner, NFC, GPS, and FM radio. The battery life can last up to 11 hours of 3G talk time and video playback.

#2 – Oppo F1 Plus – 6.6mm

Oppo F1 PlusDisplay: 5.5 inches (1080 x 1920 pixels)
Camera: 13MP (1080p)
Hardware: Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10, Octa-core (4×2.0 GHz + 4×1.0 GHz), 4 GB RAM
Battery: 2850 mAh
Price: US$ 370

Cheapest Place to buy: Amazon.com

The Oppo F1 Plus is a mid-range smartphone. Aside from the slim build, it has Full HD resolution at 401 pixels per inch. The same sharpness, display size, and resolution of the iPhone 7 Plus.

At first glance, the design is very similar to the latest iPhone. But it is thinner and lighter at only 145 g.

The display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It has a 64GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 256 GB. The processing power is good enough to play heavy games and power hungry apps.

The battery life can last up to 21 hours of 3G talk time and 12 hours of video playback.

Other features that you may like include AMOLED display, Full HD video recording, GPS, and fingerprint sensor.

#3 – Oppo R9s – 6.6mm

OPPO R9sDisplay: 5.5 inches (1080 x 1920 pixels)
Camera: 16MP (2160p)
Hardware: Snapdragon 625, Octa-core 2.0 GHz, 4 GB RAM
Battery: 3010 mAh
Price: US$ 450

Cheapest Place to buy: Amazon.com

Oppe R9s is also another mid-range smartphone that you will like. Released last October, it’s only 145 g in weight and has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for display protection.

The display also has a very sharp quality at 401 pixels per inch.

It also has 64 GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 256 GB using a microSD card. What I like about it is that it has a very high camera resolution and can record 4K videos.

The camera also has an excellent aperture size, sensor size and pixel size, so expect quality photos from this smartphone.

The battery life can last up to 26 hours of 3G talk time and 16 hours of video playback. Other cool features that you will like are the fingerprint sensor and AMOLED display technology.

#4 – Samsung Galaxy C5 – 6.7mm

galaxy c5Display: 5.2 inches (1080 x 1920 pixels)
Camera: 16MP (1080p)
Hardware: Snapdragon 617, Octa-core (4×1.5 GHz + 4×1.2 GHz), 4 GB RAM
Battery: 2600 mAh
Price: US$ 350

Cheapest Place to buy: Amazon.com

Although the design also seems to imitate the iPhone, it has better display quality because of its Super AMOLED display technology. It has richer and more vivid colors than the iPhone display.

The display is also very sharp with a 424 pixels per inch pixel density.

At only 5.2 inches in display size, this is perfect if you want a slightly smaller size phone compared to the previous smartphones.

It has a mid-range processing power and a huge RAM that is excellent for playing games and running powerful apps.

The battery life can last up to 14 hours of 3G talk time and 13 hours of video playback.

Other nice features that you will like  include the 32 or 54 GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 256 GB using a microSD card, stereo FM, and fingerprint scanner.

#5 – vivo X6S – 6.7mm

Vivo X6S Display: 5.2 inches (1080 x 1920 pixels)

Hardware: Snapdragon 652, Octa-core (4×1.8 GHz + 4×1.4 GHz), 4 GB RAM
Battery: 2400 mAh
Price: US$ 380

The display size of the vivo X6S is slightly smaller than your average phablet so it is easier to use with one hand.

The design is also very similar to the iPhone, but again, it has Super AMOLED display which makes it better in terms of display quality.

At 424 pixels per inch, the display is also very sharp and crisp. Like most of the phones in the list, it has a mid-range processing power that can efficiently handle your heavy apps and games.

It also has 64GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 256 GB. It can record Full HD videos, has a fingerprint sensor, and a good camera for quality photos.
